Dodson & Horrell National Amateur & Veteran championship – 2015 winner’s blog

15th November 2016

From Oldest to Youngest - Dodson & Horrell caught up with last year’s winner of the Dodson and Horrell 0.95m National Amateur Championship at Aintree, 16 year old A level student Charlotte Goodwin from Foston Derbyshire prior to this year’s championships.

Winning the Championship was fantastic and my horse Regal Clover, who I have owned for nearly two years, was amazing. It was my first time at the Championships and I couldn’t believe we won! She had a well-deserved rest after Aintree and qualified for the Bronze League at Keysoe as I really wanted to qualify for HOYS, sadly I had a fence in the final round but Clover jumped well, especially when the final round was raised to 1.05m – 1.10m. We also went on to win the 0.95m Grand Prix class at Arena UK’s Showjumping Festival in September which was awesome!

I gave Clover some time off after a busy summer, unfortunately when I brought her back into work she didn’t feel just right. Our equine physiotherapist confirmed she had put her pelvis out so she has had three weeks off. Sadly this means I won’t be going the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships which is very disappointing as I had qualified for the 1.05m class. At 18 years of age, ensuring that Clover is in perfect health is my priority so she will have time off and I will see how it goes. In the meantime I look forward to hunting and showjumping my two other horses over the winter.

Last year was my first experience at Aintree and I will never forget it. The atmosphere is amazing - enjoy every minute!
