The Challenges of Fireworks

21st October 2024

Our Nutritional Manager, Emma Nissler, leads our October blog - focussing on your firework worries in the build-up to Bonfire Night.

As we approach bonfire night, our horse’s wellbeing and temperament can become a concern. In particular, we start to think about the anxiety that comes with fireworks at this time of year, and so it’s important to consider preventative measures. One aspect frequently overlooked is the role nutrition can play to balance temperament.

Top tips for Bonfire Night:

If you know that your horse gets stressed or anxious this time of year, it may be helpful to consider adding a calming supplement to their ration, at least one month in advance. This gives the supplement time to work its way into their system and take effect. If it doesn’t have an effect during this time, there is still opportunity to change before bonfire night comes.

Our supplement, Placid, is ideal for horses and ponies who are prone to anxiety, nerves or excitability. With a natural blend of chamomile, lemon balm, vervain and magnesium; all of which are renowned for their calming properties, Placid is ideal to add into an existing diet to support your horse’s nerves through challenging times.

Alternatively, for horses that can be stressed or excitable all year round, our Be Calm Balancer contains chamomile, lemon balm and vervain to help ease nerves and excitability. It also provides all essential vitamins and minerals, alongside immune, hoof and digestive support. High levels of good quality protein support muscle health and development for those in light to moderate work that need to keep a level head.
